We’re continuing our read-through of my English translation of Dante’s INFERNO, the first third (or so) of his masterpiece COMEDY—or The Divine Comedy, if you listen to Boccaccio and his ilk.

We’re come down to the eighth and ninth evil pouches of fraud. Here, we find Ulysses, Guido da Montefeltro, Mohammed, the troubadour poet Betran de Born, and a host of other schismatics, cruelly hacked apart by the demon in their pit.

Doesn’t sound too inviting, does it? But this is our great poet Dante, working at the height of his powers. The monologues are beyond compare.
